On January 8, 2009, Bread & Roses was thrilled to receive the award for "Achievement in Nonprofit Excellence" at the 16th Annual Heart of Marin 2008 Awards Ceremony recognizing outstanding Marin nonprofits and their leaders.

Sponsored by the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership CVNL, the award included a grant of $5,000, contributed by Autodesk, for Bread & Roses to continue its mission of bringing hope and healing through live music to isolated people in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Bread & Roses Executive Director Cassandra Flipper recently said, "We are grateful to be recognized for playing an important role at the intersection of the arts and social services communities in Marin and around the Bay. In bringing live music and other performances to people isolated in a broad range of institutions, we are pleased to be honored as a premier community builder for our work providing services to and partnering with more nonprofits in Marin County than perhaps any agency other than CVNL."

In Marin County alone last year, Bread & Roses delivered program service to 38 different social service agencies. Our work would not be possible without the inspiring contributions of all of our volunteer performers. For this year's Heart of Marin Awards Ceremony, Bread & Roses nominated Storyteller David Ponkey as our Volunteer of the Year. David was part of our winning team at the lunch and we were glad to recognize him as an outstanding teller of highly engaging and educational stories for so many of our facility audiences in Marin and the greater Bay Area.

Thanks to a committed Board of Directors led by enthusiastic Board Chair Susan Gilardi, a dedicated staff of ten, and 460 performing acts who make our mission possible. Congratulations to all for your hard work and a well deserved award.
