Former Bread & Roses Executive David Hudnut Dead at 68
Tiburon resident helped non-profits
A memorial service for David Hudnut of Tiburon, a former president of the California Historical Society and past chairman of the board of Marin's Bread & Roses, was held July 26, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in San Francisco.
Mr. Hudnut, a resident of Tiburon for 34 years, died of a heart attack June 17 at his family's vacation home near Estes Park, Colorado. He was 68.
A retired executive with US Leasing Interntional in San Francsico, Mr. Hudnut was a devoted volunteer for numerous organizations.
He served for six years on the board of Bread & Roses, the Corte Madera-based nonprofit agency that brings free music and entertainment to people shut away in hospitals, convalescent homes, prisons and other institutions.
In addition to his tenure on the board, including two terms as chairman, he was a volunteer performer, playing the banjo and saw at 82 shows for seniors, children and disabled adults.
"He was a man for all seasons who gave generously of his time, talent and treasure," Bread & Roses Executive Director Cassandra Flipper said. "He is irreplaceable."
Mr. Hudnut was a member of the board of directors of the California Hisotrical Society Foundation, and served stints as treasurer and president.
He was active in the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon and the Edgewood Children's Center in San Francisco. He was chairman of boards of San Francisco's Donaldina Cameron House, Northern California Presbyterian Homes and Services for Seniors.
He served on several corporate boards, including that of Lucasfilm Ltd.
In 1993, he received the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Business Arts Award.
The son of a Presbyterian minister, Mr. Hudnut grew up in Rochester, N.Y., and graduated from Princeton University and Cornell Unversity Law School.
He also was a corporate lawyer for Ford Motor Co. in suburban Detroit before joining US Leasing.
Mr. Hudnut is survived by his wife, Robin, of Tiburon and five children: David Jr. of Munich, German; Marjorie Renner of Tiburon; Josh Hudnut of Berkeley; John Hudnut of Breckenridge, Colorado; and Ben Hudnut of Los Angeles.
